The foreigner-only casino at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, will be closed until 2 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 10), according to a notice on the website of Gangnam-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The number of COVID-19 cases among employees has increased to nine as of Thursday.
The casino, run by Seven Luck Brands' Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), initially went into temporary closure from 10 a.m. on Wednesday (5 January) after four employees were diagnosed with COVID-19.
The initial shutters were for cleaning and testing all the staff.
The venue was scheduled to reopen at 2 p.m. on Thursday, but the closure was extended until the same time on Friday with news that four more employees had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The closure was then extended until 2 p.m. on Friday and then changed to Monday afternoon.
The notice on the website of Seven Luck posted a message confirming the extension of the holiday period, reiterating that the holiday is a "preemptive measure to prevent the spread of infection" and that it guarantees "the safety of customers and employees."
The notice added, "We will do our best to ensure your safe stay through thorough disinfection and preventive measures during the temporary closure."
"Gangbuk Hilton and Busan Lotte are operating normally," the notice added, referring to another GKL stadium in Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
South Korean authorities have reinstated social distancing rules across the country to prevent a resurgence of COVID-19. The measures will be in effect until at least Jan. 16.
As of 12 a.m. on Sunday, South Korea recorded 3,376 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with 664,391 confirmed cases, including 6,037 deaths, according to the ministry.
