Provisional data released on Monday by the Macau Financial Services Bureau showed that the Macau government's gaming tax breaks rose 116.8% year-on-year in the first three months of 2024.
The city collected about $21.92 billion ($2.74 billion) in fiscal revenue from taxes on games in the first quarter of this year. That compares with $10.11 billion collected in the same period in 2023, when Macau began reopening its economy after three years of COVID-19-related travel restrictions.
Taxes from gaming accounted for 84.2% of Macau's government gross revenue in the three months to March 31, with the latter reaching 26.4 billion MOPs.
In March this year alone, the government made about $7.13 billion in revenue from the gaming tax, but it was down 4.4% from the previous month.
Macau's total casino game sales (GGR) rose 65.5% year-over-year to 57.33 billion in the first quarter, according to official data from the Macau gaming regulator.
Under Macau's 10-year game concession system, which took effect on January 1 last year, the effective tax rate on casino gross game revenue (GGR) is 40%.
Tax collection figures for a particular calendar period and casino GGR for that period are not directly comparable for many reasons. This includes the fact that there is typically a delay between when the GGR is recorded in Macau casino operations and when the Macau government registers as having paid taxes on the play.
According to the government's 2024 budget, game tax revenues are expected to reach about $83.61 billion this year. 에볼루션 바카라사이트
In the full year of 2023, Macau authorities collected $65.26 billion in gaming tax revenue, achieving a surplus of 28.3% from gaming tax revenue set last year.
